Let Humanity Prevail

It was a weekend and I was in a local bus travelling to Marina beach, a place that attracts by its name. Luckily, I grabbed a window seat to comfort myself within a couple of minutes journey started. Unlike normal days I decided not to pull out mobile to check if any notifications arrived, later that proved me a blissful choice as I witnessed the most pleasant essence of life.


Next to my seat there were a couple sitting of approximate 70 to 80 years of age. The old man who was sitting next to me on window seat had wrinkled skins and weaken body. His calmness was shouting about his sickness. The old woman beside him was as old as the man yet she was active to take care of him. After some moments when conductor came to collect tickets she gave money to take two tickets till their destination. I could not take my eyes off from them as I was witnessing one of the beautiful reality of life.

Post some few more moments of travel the old man coughed hard holding his chest tight, I was worried by looking at him. Then all of sudden my eyes went onto the Granny sitting beside him. I saw a vibration out of dread electrified on her whole body. With no time wasting further she pulled out her grey handkerchief to wipe out saliva coming out of her man’s mouth, letter she went on to ensure him, “everything is fine”. I was numbed to see such affection and love.

My experience came to an end when their destination arrived, the Granny stood couple of minutes before and asked conductor to stop the bus on next stop until they get down. Finally, the next bus-stop came, she made the old man stand by holding his hand and made him get down from the bus with all due care as if she was taking care of her most precious fragile ornament.

For a moment, I thought there are still some people who are killing girl fetus, there are still some exist who doesn’t support woman empowerment, still majority of people believe in a tradition that prohibits gender equality.

Let’s ignore for a moment examples of our great historical characters like Rani Lakshmibai, Kalpana Chawla and many more, we still have many living examples surrounding us, let’s get inspire from them, let there be light and hope, let humanity prevail.
